Groundbreaking ceremony for the Lanserhof health resort on Sylt
Largest thatched roof in Europe
On 29 November 2017, construction of the Lanserhof Sylt kicked off with a groundbreaking ceremony. On the site of a former officers’ accommodation block from the 1930s at Lister Watt in the north of the island, ingenhoven architects are building a 68-room medical spa resort that is scheduled for completion in 2020.
The Lanserhof Group is one of the most modern health resort operators in Europe in the field of medical wellness; the Group is the originator of the LANS Med concept. In 2014, ingenhoven architects had already completed Lanserhof Tegernsee, which was followed in 2017 by the Lanserhof at Lans in Austria.
In close cooperation with the Office for the Preservation of Historic Buildings and for Nature Conservation, the former officers’ accommodation block will be converted as the central building of the entire Lanserhof ensemble. In addition, the development will include the main building with spa area, including indoor and outdoor salt-water pools, and a diagnostics building housing the medical care facilities for guests. The Lanserhof ensemble will be rounded off with three holiday homes.
A key focus of the building project is the careful harmonization of the architecture with the surrounding dune landscape in order to avoid any negative impact on the protected landscape and wildlife.
The idea was to create a particularly sustainable and healthy building complex in which guests can recuperate and re-energise in harmony with nature. Natural materials without synthetic finishes and harmonious and plain rooms are the building blocks of a health-promoting architecture that is focused on the holistic recovery of guests. The reduction in the energy requirement is achieved with a high level of thermal insulation and a geothermal installation. The loggias in the thatched roof, which at 5,900 m² is Europe’s largest, provide private and wind-protected outdoor areas for each guest room.
Similar to the design for the Tegernsee and Lans developments, only selected materials will be used, such as insulation, paints, and varnishes that have been tested under ecological and health criteria. The architecture of the buildings is toned down and timeless, with elegant forms and subtle colors.
ingenhoven architects is responsible for the building design and the entire interior design.
