Foundation stone of the future Stuttgart main station

The laying of the foundation stone for the future Stuttgart main station took place on 22 September 2016. The symbolic act was carried out by Dr. Rüdiger Grube (CEO of Deutsche Bahn AG) Norbert Barthle (Secretary of State), Dr. Nicole Hoffmeister Herb (state Economic Minister), Michael Föll (mayor of Stuttgart), Klaus Pöllath (Board of Ed. Züblin AG), and architect Christoph Ingenhoven. The foundation stone of the central building was laid on the constructed concrete slab which forms the base of the station.
"Stuttgart, formed in the valley close to the existing castle by command of king of Württemberg was freed from its chains by the creation of a thoroughfare railway. The station itself, a low-lying, yet light-flooded poetic space, proved the architectural embodiment of a new railway age of high-speed and comfort. Above the station, the castle gardens developed grander and more beautiful than ever, acting as a catalyst for coming development on both sides, to the Old Town and the New" says Christoph Ingenhoven.
