Balthasar Neumann Prize 2018 for Freiburg Town Hall
The Balthasar Neumann prize is donated by DBZ Deutsche BauZeitschrift and the Bund Deutscher Baumeister, Architekten und Ingenieure e. V. (BDB), Berlin. It was first given in 1994 and is organized every two years. The Balthasar Neumann prize is given to honor exemplary and innovative cooperation between professional building disciplines that goes beyond technically established standards and—owing to this cooperation—results in buildings with outstanding architectural and technical qualities, as was envisaged by Balthasar Neumann. Freiburg town hall, designed by ingenhoven architects, is considered the first public net-surplus-energy building worldwide and was selected for the 2018 Balthasar Neumann prize.
