On the occasion of the 2014 Architecture Biennale, the Deutsche Werkbund Berlin and the Museum of Architecture of Berlin Technical University invited 22 architectural practices from Germany to present their ideas for dealing with the "dilapidated" German pavilion in Venice. Christoph Ingenhoven’s design concept proposed to deal sensibly with the existing building; small adaptations at the apse and an opening at the back of the building towards San Giorgio Maggiore, Santa Maria della Salute, and San Marco. All 22 submissions were exhibited from June 19 to July 7, 2015 at the Museum of Architecture of Berlin Technical University.

For the opening of the exhibition "this is modern—The German pavilion in Venice", Christoph Ingenhoven gave a talk at the North Rhine-Westphalia Academy of Sciences and Arts in Düsseldorf on November 3, 2014. Furthermore, the exhibition was shown at the Palazzo Ca’Tron on Canal Grande in Venice in 2014.
