Kö-Blick, Düsseldorf
Views and visibility determine the design of the Kö-Blick office and commercial building in Düsseldorf. It rises at the corner of the famous Königsallee and Graf-Adolf-Platz in the city centre at the end of the Kö-Graben. The Kö-Graben, in the middle of the Königsallee, is lined with tall trees that form a green axis running from the building to the Hofgarten. With its prominent location on the axis of the Königsallee the building has a special urbanistic importance.
The nine-storey structure is rounded on the corner and harmonises with the height of the neighbouring buildings. The eaves height is 31 metres. The site is fully developed to the street side while setbacks on the courtyard side create terraces and improve the natural daylighting.
The entrance on the Königsallee creates a prominent foyer. The circular core contains elevators and stairs that provide access to the upper floors. The ground floor can accommodate up to four shops, all with display windows towards the street. The layout of the offices on the upper floors is highly flexible. The street elevation is characterised by generous glazing and light-coloured stone. The building has a green roof and a geothermal heat pump.
